PollenCare: Living better with a pollen allergy

More and more people are affected by pollen allergies – with significant consequences for their health, daily lives and costs. Climate change is extending the pollen season, increasing allergen levels and encouraging the spread of new, sometimes highly allergenic species. Towns and local authorities face the challenge of planning green spaces with greater consideration for public health.

The project

PollenCare operates in the Austrian-Hungarian border region: we are refining regional pollen services, developing practical measures for allergy-friendly green spaces and providing new digital services – including the AI chatbot PollenCare. Five project partners and eleven strategic partners are working together across borders.

Who is it for?

People with allergies: Regional forecasts, personalised advice and early warnings.
Local authorities and experts: Training, guidelines and decision-making tools for healthy green space management.
Doctors and pharmacies: Accurate pollen information and seasonal alerts for advice and care.

Knowledge transfer

Pilot local authorities are being trained; materials, workshops and practical examples demonstrate how public spaces can be designed to be allergy-friendly. In addition, there are free webinars for amateur gardeners and professionals.

New: The AI chatbot PollenCare

The basic version is already available. It uses data from ‘Natur im Garten’, the knowledge database of the Austrian Pollen Information Service, and the AI bot Pollee. As the project progresses, the bot will be further developed in collaboration with the Hungarian research team at the National Centre for Public Health and Pharmacy.
