What weather conditions influence the pollen count?
Sunny, dry and windy days are ideal for pollen counts - and unpleasant for pollen allergy sufferers. Strong winds can transport pollen over long distances or stir up pollen that has already been deposited, which increases the burden. Before thunderstorms with high lightning activity, pollen can burst open, releasing allergens and causing sudden peaks in exposure. Only the onset of rain brings relief by washing the pollen out of the air. Longer periods of rain generally reduce the release of pollen, and temperatures below 5 °C also inhibit pollen flight.
