Botanical Information

Distribution
Natural distribution in China, Japan, and Korea. Habitats — Warmth-loving, native to steppes and dry forests. Planted in Europe as a park and ornamental tree, rarely naturalized, of little importance in forestry.

Morphology
Habit — Medium-sized tree. Foliage — Deciduous, pinnately compound leaves, leaflets ovate, shiny dark green upper leaf surface, bluish and densely hairy lower leaf surface, autumn leaf color bright yellow. Reproduction — Cream-white flowers in long racemes, fruits are long and bald pods, pods constricted (hence the name!).
