Worldwide occurrence. Grows in soil, on dead leaves, or parasitically on living plants, on foods, and in moist environments on residential and building materials.

Profile
Molds grow as colored coatings, moisture of the substrate or air is necessary for infestation, fungi reproduce sexually by employing spores. Depending on the type of fungus, spores can look different and may be used for identification. The actual fungal organism consists of tissue threads (mycelium). These threads can produce spore carriers (sporangia), in which the spores mature and can be used for identification.
